Our Week
Overall, our week was AWESOME! We came up with our classroom expectations:
-Wake Up & Be Awesome
-Be Kind, Be Safe, Show Respect
-LISTEN
-Help our Team Succeed
-Live, Love, Learn
-Chase Your Dreams
Kids are in the architect phase of designing their bridges. It's so much fun to see these plans come along, and different strengths shine. We'll finish up this project after we return from ODS.
Literacy
In literacy, students built up their stamina for independent reading while I did reading assessments. The assessments will help us set goals in reading. We also continued our reading of Love That Dog. We are seeing Jack transform from a kid who doesn't think he can write poetry to someone interested and willing to share his words. We are also predicting that Jack had a very special dog and the role this might play in rest of the story. We are also writing poems! This week we tried the squeeze poem, where you squeeze out a poem from 1 word. Ask your child about the Breakfast poem.
Math
In math, both 5th and 6th grade played logic games, worked on assessments and created their Math Mindswirl--showing their thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams toward math. Be sure to ask what games we played and what their mindswirl looks like.
Best,
Gretchen
