Our first three days together have focused on engineering. I use this word broadly, to include how we've built our understanding of each other, started to build our expectations as a class, and we've built our binders. However, we even took time to be more formal engineers during our water balloon drop activity and folding paper frogs that we'll hopefully try jumping next week. I look forward to delving deeper into mathematics and literacy this week as we continue to engineer our great year together.
Ask, how can someone apply the engineering process?
Listen to your child talk about team building activities, like Name Juggle.
Extend the learning by researching famous engineering projects.
Outdoor School Paperwork
Outdoor Science School is just around the corner, and I can't wait! The content taught there will fit nicely with our Sustainable Systems project. Paper work is being sent home on Tuesday and is due the following Monday, the 11th. Please email me with questions or concerns. If this is your family's first time sending a child to ODS, check out their website. We'll be going to Camp Magruder, which is near Rockaway Beach. http://www.nwoutdoorschool.org/magruder.html
Homework
Students will bring home agendas this week and we'll get started with reading and math homework. Obtaining a parent signature is part of homework. As a reminder:
Tuesday-- read the newsletter together / check agenda or homework central for math
Wednesday-- read the Outdoor School Paperwork / check agenda or homework central for math
Thursday-- 20 minutes book of choice / check agenda or homework central for math
