Ask why is a lower resting heart rate better than a fast resting heart rate? How can one lower their heart rate?
Talk about what happens when we blush and why.
Extend by looking how a bird's lungs work compared to ours.
Literacy: With the test, we laid low on literacy on certain days. However, we did kick off our memoir study. After reading a few great mentor texts, kids are planning their memoir. It had to be a time in their life where they learned something about themselves, or changed in some way. That's a pretty tall order for kids to do, but hopefully they are up to the challenge. If you could talk with your kiddo about this at home, it will only help them bring that moment to life. There will be writing homework this week for them to work on their memoir. NO SPELLING!
Ask what moment is being used for your memoir?
Talk about what techniques were seen in the mentor texts that you could try?
Extend the learning by reading a memoir together.
6th Grade Math: We are wrapping up our stats unit! Monday we'll review and Tuesday we'll test. Then it will be onto Algebra. It was fun taking some of our own data to look at histograms, box-and-whisker plots as well as deviations from the mean.
Ask how to find the points on a box and whisper plot?
Talk about why the mean absolute deviation is an important concept.
Extend the learning by doing your own study and using the techniques we learned in this block.
