The only homework will be finishing up math assignments and preparing for the their speech!
What will you study this summer?!!
Literacy--Ending the year with speeches is definitely a lot to ask a group when the finish line is in sight. But, it also feels good to have something so important to work on to keep them motivated.
Be sure to take advantage of the awesome reading programs at the library this summer. Keep a journal--never stop writing!! And, kids can access their Spelling City accounts all summer--they can practice their missed words and find other fun spelling activities. Lastly, kids feel better about literacy when their typing skills improve--have them set aside time to play typing games so typing becomes easier.
Math
6th grade, rock a final test this week. 5th, let's share our fabulous food carts. You were both awesome crews this year!
*6th graders can access the Core Focus website all summer--all textbook lessons are online, as do worksheets and even IXL (a math game site) to practice skills.
As you all know, next week is the final week of the 2018-19 school year. Our last day of school is Friday, June 7; dismissal is 1:05 p.m. Please read on for details about special events and year-end reminders.
Reminders
- Student Medications: Parents whose students have medication on file here at FGCS should plan to pick up that medication in person by Friday, June 7 at the latest. Students are not allowed to take any medications home themselves, even over-the-counter ones or even with parent permission.
- Student Belongings: Parents are asked to make sure their students bring home any personal items kept at school by Friday.
Bridging Ceremony 1-3 p.m. Thurs., June 6/Taylor-Meade Auditorium: Our annual Bridging Ceremony honors students in 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th grades who are 'bridging' to the next grade level or graduating from FGCS. The ceremony includes student performances and a farewell slide show for 8th graders. Parents and other family members of bridging students are invited to attend. Taylor-Meade Auditorium is located on the Pacific University campus. The auditorium will open for seating at 12:30 p.m. Please allow plenty of time to find parking nearby if you are driving. Important note: The ceremony is expected to end about 3 p.m. Parents may take their students home with them from the ceremony, but they must check out directly with teachers so we make sure everyone is accounted for. Students will otherwise return to school with their parents to be dismissed as usual at 3:20 p.m.
Anxiety in Children: A Parent Workshop 5-6:30 p.m. Thurs., June 6: The final session of this workshop will take place in the Art Room. All are welcome, regardless of whether you've attended prior sessions.
Field Day 9:45 a.m.-12 p.m. Fri., June 7/Lincoln Park: Our annual Field Day takes place on the last day of school. After field day activities wrap up, staff and volunteers serve students pizza, watermelon and fruit juice for lunch. There is no school lunch service that day because it's a Friday. Students are welcome to bring lunch from home if they don't want pizza or will need more fuel for the day. As with Bridging, if parents come to Field Day, they are welcome to take their students home with them afterward rather than have students walk back to school with their classes, but they are asked to check out directly with teachers so we keep track of everyone.
