Homework--End the year on the high note! Get that homework done. Kids will have reading, math and for writing students should work on their speech. Secret Word --> Due dates--lit circle packet, research paper are both due. Speeches (which are based on their research writing project) will take place next week Monday-Wednesday, June 3-5.
Project
Although our study of ancient civilizations continue to be riveting, it was our presentation of our Fernhill research that took the spotlight. Students were humble, yet professional as they explained what they found and what they thought it all meant. If you missed it, you can check it out during COL, Thursday night.
Ask, how did it feel presenting to Clean Water Services scientists?
Talk about how you could continue your research on your own this summer.
Extend the learning to plan a place to explore this summer where you could continue to be a citizen scientist.
Literacy
Our literacy work this past week was wrapping up our research paper. It was the first time this crew has created a “work cited” page to their paper. Many kids learned the hard way that they won’t ignore writing down their sources ever again. This week (28th-31st) kids should use homework time to work on loose ends like their paper, lit circle packet and getting ready for their speech (based on their research paper) which will take place the last week of school.
Ask, how can I help you with your year end literacy projects.
Talk about what makes a good speech.
Extend the learning by making a literacy plan for the summer.
Math
Thank you all for your hard work on state testing!
6th graders - return all textbooks this week!!! We’ll use our last week or so together to wrap up statistics and algebra.
Fifth graders will be putting their Food Truck business plan into action by building a 3-D model and reflecting on the amazing math growth they have made this year.
