Writing: Spelling and unfinished work like memoir, digital story or literature circle packet
Reading: The usual - read the newsletter as a family on Monday. Other nights, book of choice!
Math: 6th graders take home test due ASAP, but by the 8th FOR SURE! 5th graders, practice your math facts for 10 minutes each night.
Thanks to so many parent volunteers, Level 3 had an amazing time at Hagg Lake on Tuesday. It was so fun to be outdoors and active with the students. I think we've found a new tradition.
Rest of the week included working on our digital stories, wrapping up our literature circle books, and planning the Health Fest.
Health Fest
Imagine eating a delicious & healthy rice bowl, while overlooking the wetlands which are teeming with life this time of year. Then, take a stroll along the trails with friends and family and enjoy the health benefits walking in nature has to offer. We hope to see you all there! And, we could use your help to allow our kiddos to cook at the UCC as well as set up, tear down and donating some items. Please sign up or email me!
As a reminder, tickets to this event are limited - purchase yours for only $10 in the office this week Monday-Thursday. Funds will go towards Outdoor School. Check with your child about which shift they are working. All workers must help with cleaning during their shift! Students will not have time to eat during their shift, but would love to wait on you! (Mystery word - write which shift you are working)
First shift workers: 4:45-6:00 (First seating starts @ 5:00) Andi, Chloe, Elsa, Blue, Che, Ryan, Jackson, Max, Kaiden, Naomi?
Second shift: 6:00-7:15 (Second seating starts @ 6:15) Mason, Maddy, Grace, Payton, Rebekah, Maya
Adikini, Micah?, Cam?, Troy?, Jake?
Info from the school about next week (June 11 & 12)
We are down to the wire of the 2017-18 school year! Here are details about two important year-end events:
Bridging Ceremony 1-2:30 p.m. Monday, June 11 Taylor-Meade Auditorium-Pacific University
This event honors our 'bridging' students (2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th graders) who are moving up to the next level at FGCS or who are graduating and moving on to high school. Parents and other family members of bridging students are encouraged to attend. Doors will open for the event at 12:30 p.m. and the event will start at 1 p.m. Allow time to park your car on streets nearby and make your way to Taylor-Meade. Click here for a map of the Pacific University campus. Please note that the 2:30 p.m. end time is approximate. Parents: You may take students home with them immediately after the ceremony if they wish, but please make sure you check out directly with teachers so we can keep track of everyone. Students who return to campus after Bridging will be dismissed at 3:05 (Level 1) and 3:20 (Levels 2, 3 and 4).
Field Day Tuesday, June 12 (Last Day of School) Lincoln Park
Field Day starts at about 9:30 a.m. and wraps up with a picnic lunch. June 12 is a full school day, so Level 1 students will be dismissed at 3:05 p.m. Levels 2, 3 and 4 at 3:20 p.m. If parents want to pick up students early, please sign them out in the office as usual and call ahead to verify whether the student is at school or still at the park.
On Field Day, students will eat lunch at the park. We serve pizza lunch with fruit and juice to any who want it. Students who ordered school lunch will get a sack lunch they can eat in addition to or instead of pizza. Students are also welcome to bring lunch from home if they prefer. If your child ordered school lunch but you'd like to cancel that order for Field Day, please contact Karen Torry at [email protected] or 503-359-4600.
