Welcome back Merlins and Kestrels! We hope that you were able to recharge a bit over break, and are looking forward to jumping back in to winter term! Winter term goes from now until Spring Break, and will have a whole new flavor for Project, Reading and Writing. This week’s newsletter will be more of a preview than a recap, so you can come back to school ready to go!
Project
For Winter Project, we will be studying Colonial (*secret word*) America. To do this, we will be participating in an Early America Simulation, holding a Revolutionary Debate, and exploring the Norths and Souths of geography! Be prepared for colony updates as we journey back to the 16th? century!
Literacy
Aside from reading historical documents for our project, we will also each be reading and discussing a historical fiction book for our Historical Fiction Literature circles. As a class, we will all be following an analysis of the book Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson, the story of a thirteen-year-old slave named Isabel and what she experiences during the American Revolution. We will practice writing by researching the colonial era, crafting arguments for our debates, and creating our own historical fiction narrative.
Math
Math will continue as it had during fall term, but of course, we will be adding in more strategies and concepts to grow and build our skills as mathematicians.
